Richard Mullin: "The only man I envy is the man who has not yet been to Africa; for he has so much to look forward to." He is right! We'll show you.

Why a safari with GRW safaris

GRW safaris is a hobby run by two life long friends, Wayne and David, who grew up together in South Africa. Wayne and David have been on more safaris than most people could dream of. Our aim is to share our passion for African safaris with you by delivering an authentic South African safari experience:

  • Wayne visited a private reserve at the age of 4 where he vividly remembers spotting the highly venomous “boom slang” (Tree Snake) and watching a Zebra being skinned. Wayne first visited the Kruger National Park at the age of 6 and travelled to the Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe at the age of 8. He learned how to drive in a game reserve as do many South Africans. Wayne has an encyclopedic knowledge of his sightings and can tell you exactly what Lion / Leopard / Cheetah / Wild Dog sighting he saw on what road in what reserve in what country over the last 25-30 years. He has seen Lions introduced into game reserves and die 15 years later. He has seen Leopards as cubs and then as adults. Without realising it, the many safaris was a formative upbringing, providing Wayne with the knowledge of the safari system which he now uses to host safaris.

  • David spent much of his childhood in the Kruger National Park. Most holidays were spent traversing the roads of Kruger National Park, no mean feat considering the Kruger is the size of Wales. David's specialty is the big cats, especially Leopards; his ability to find cats is so good that you'll be booking an optometrist appointment when you leave safari wondering what is wrong with your eyes.

Wayne and David do not want you to visit Africa and have an experience that merely ticks a box. They are passionate about ensuring that you have an authentic experience that will change you (whatever your age!) and believe building a safari based on what local South Africans do on their safari - rather than simply selling a scheduled safari departure tour - is the best way to achieve that. It is this ethos that sits behind the hosted safari.
